The USB cable is used to carry the audio and the CI-V cable is used to carry the radio commands. So if you don’t have a CI-V cable you can pick up an inexpensive one on E-Bay. In my experience this seems to work better than any other method. That way I get to use the ICOM 7610 or the ICOM 7300, which ever radio I’m operating, for the Radio in WSJT-X. If you have seen my other articles and videos you’ll know that I normally use a CI-V cable for WSJT-X rig control. I have many posts on this program and using it with HRD. HRD Logbook does the heavy lifting like Callsign lookup and uploading to my online logs. If you need to, have a look at my post on QSO forwarding. So even though GridTracker allows logging into HRD Logbook I decided to stick with QSO forwarding. With HRD I normally use QSO forwarding along with WSJT-X. This is a “How To” with screen captures below. We can use QSO Forwarding in HRD Logbook to receive contacts (QSO’s) from WSJT-X because it’s easy and efficient. In this post I am going to go over downloading GridTracker (GT) and using it with WSJT-X and Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD).
